Proposals for CFIUS to vet gifts to universities are unwelcome

The leaders of some of America’s top academic institutions have come together to author a letter to the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, raising their concerns about proposals set out in a new bill for the Strategic Competition Act, which would “require the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to review many gifts and contracts offered to the institutions we represent.”
