In May 2022, the Japanese government is to expand the definition of “deemed export” in an effort to enhance the country’s participation in international research.
While there are already restrictions in place to prevent technology transfers directly from a “resident” to a “non-resident”, persons who have been in the country for more than six months are regarded as “residents” and thus exempt from restrictions.
