EU moves toward harmonized rules to define and punish sanctions violations

The European Parliament has agreed with Member States on a draft law that would criminalize EU sanctions violations and harmonize enforcement across the 27-nation bloc.
At present, while sanctions are adopted at the EU level, enforcement relies on individual Member States, among which definitions of sanctions violation and associated penalties do vary.
