A new OFAC focus: GeoIP blocking

Recent Office of Foreign Asset Controls (“OFAC”) enforcement settlements have shown that regulators expect Internet Protocol (“IP”) address checks and blocking to be used as a mechanism to implement sanctions compliance. OFAC is scrutinizing this activity and failure to screen IP addresses and prevent activity in sanctioned destinations can constitute violations and incur civil penalties.
