Trade ministers of the G7 countries – the US, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Canada – held an online meeting on 4 April in preparation for the 49th G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan in May. In a statement, the ministers emphasized their agreement on the use of export controls as a policy tool to control the use of critical technologies. Their statement read:
