Canada’s export controls – what you need to know

In this 40-minute webinar, Cyndee Todgham Cherniak, founding lawyer with Toronto-based international trade law firm LexSage, presents on key elements of Canada’s export control regime, walking participants through recent developments and tools and illustrating with reference to specific developments.

Cyndee Todgham Cherniak has practiced for almost 20 years at Canada’s top Bay Street law firms. She has been appointed by the Government of Canada to the NAFTA Chapter 19 Roster in the Members of Panels (NAFTA) Regulations. Cyndee was appointed by Canada’s Minister of Justice (Peter MacKay) for two terms on the Judicial Advisory Committee to the Tax Court of Canada.Cyndee provides advice on doing business in Canada to companies in emerging markets, such as China, India, Brazil and Mexico.

She represented the Government of China, Chinese Associations and/or exporters in the three of the first four anti-dumping and countervailing duty cases against China (outdoor barbeques, carbon steel and stainless steel fasteners, copper pipe fittings, aluminum extrusions, piling pipe, carbon steel welded pipe, and copper tubes) and the first China specific safeguard case initiated by Canada against outdoor barbeques from China. She also participated in the successful representation of a coalition of importers, retailers and distributors in a China-specific safeguard case that was filed but never initiated against residential furniture from China. In addition, she represented the Government of China, Chinese Associations and exporters in the recent global safeguard case against the import of bicycles and bicycle frames.
