A Chinese software engineer has been charged with economic espionage and theft of trade secrets for allegedly stealing proprietary artificial intelligence technology from Google LLC, according to the US Department of Justice (“DOJ”).
Linwei Ding is accused of uploading “more than 1,000 unique files containing Google confidential information” to his personal Google Cloud account between May 2022 and May 2023, while secretly affiliating himself with two Chinese technology companies.
